Glutenfree Berlin! The capital city of Germany is a wonderful place to visit. The combination of the impressive past and the way the city reinvents itself with all of the pop-up stores and new cafes makes it really worth it. In this review you’ll find our suggestions for restaurants that serve good glutenfree food in Berlin, plus some extra tips for must-see spots.
First some practical tips for your visit to Berlin:
- Paying by card in restaurants is not always possible, be sure you got some cash with you.
- Making a reservation in restaurants is not really necessary (and not always possible).
- You’ll find some of the restaurants outside the city center, but you can reach them easily with public transportation.
Glutenfree restaurants in Berlin
Goodies (coffeebar) / Veganz (supermarket) / The Bowl (restaurant)
Three great places in just one building: coffeebar Goodies, the supermarket Veganz and the restaurant The Bowl. They all believe in plant based food and offer a large glutenfree assortiment. We had breakfest twice at Goodies, a good way to start the day – especially with one of the coffees that they serve. Goodies also offers take away like glutenfree pasta. We didn’t eat at The Bowl, a good excuse to visit Berlin an other time 😉
Address: Warschauerstrasse 33
CLOSED! – Ohlala
Glutenfree heaven! We had brunch on sundaymorning at Ohlala, such a great place. Everything they serve is glutenfree and vegan – all you can eat for just € 15 per person. Make sure you’re on time, it’s a small restaurant. No better way to start a sunday…
This restaurant is closed! Address: Mainzerstrasse 18
Monkeybar – rooftopbar with a view
Okay, you don’t have to go there for the glutenfree food with your drink – there barely isn’t. But drinking a glass of wine, cocktail or a homemade icetea with a fantastic view is worth it. You’ll find the Monkeybar at the top floor of the 25H Design Hotel and it is also accessable if you don’t stay in the hotel. Next door you’ll find Bikini Berlin, a trendy shoppingmall with a lot of young designers offering their work. Finished shopping? Let’s take a drink at the rooftopbar, cheers!
Address: Budapesterstrasse 40 (10e etage 25H Design Hotel)
ChaCha – Thai streetfood
ChaCha serves Thai steetfood and offers a lot of glutenfree meals that are clearly marked on the menu. The restaurant is located in the main shoppingstreet of Berlin, the Friedrichstrasse. ChaCha is a nice place to eat, and the restaurant also offers take away so you can enjoy your meal outside in a park (or any other place you prefer ;)).
Address: Friedrichstrasse 63
CLOSED – Black Cat Burger – best burgers in town
Are you in for an extremely good burger? This is the place to be. All of the burgers are also offered glutenfree. On the picture you’ll see the Black Cat Burger is really black! (Only the non-glutenfree burgers are black, the glutenfree version isn’t.)
Closed – Address: Prenzlauer Allee 48
Witty’s Currywust & Curry 36: Berlin Streetfood
Currywurst is the streetfood of Berlin. On almost every corner of the street you can find a someone who sells currywurst. But it’s worth it to take a walk to one of the best: Witty’s offers biological currywurst and fries. Please check at the restaurants which meals are glutenfree. Curry 36 offers also good currywurst and the biological currywurst is glutenfree.
Address: Witty’s and Curry 36 have both multiple locations in Berlin
Mos Eisley – the most delicious icecream of Berlin
The line outside can be long, but it’s worth it. For the best icecream you have to visit Mos Eisley. On each flavour there is a sign with the allergy information, most of them are glutenfree. When you got your icecream, take a walk to Tempelhof, just a few blocks away. Tempelhof is the old airport of Berlin and is now a park. A good place to stay on a sunny day…
Address: Herrflirth Platz 6
Cupcake Berlin
Are you in for soms sweetness? Cupcake Berlin is the answer! They also have glutenfree cupcakes. The glutenfree stock is not that big, so you have to be a little lucky to get a glutenfree cupcake.
Address: Köpenickerstrasse 4 & Krossenerstrasse 12
Prinzessinnengarten
At Kreuzberg, directly at the exit of subwaystation Moritzplatz, you’ll find Prinzessinnengarten. A big kitchen garden is waiting for you. Just walk around or buy a drink at the bar and find a nice place to sit. In the summer they cook meals with products of the garden, so there are probably some glutenfree options. We just had a drink this time, watching all the plants and listen to the birds. A place of rest in a big city.
Address: Prinzessinnenstrasse 15
